On June 21st, Professors Yingjie Victor Chen and Professor Cheryl Zhenyu Qian of the University of Purdue were invited to the School of Art to write "User Experience Design to Communicate and Bridge the Physical and Digital Worlds". And "User Experience Oriented Information Visualization Design" wonderful academic lectures. The lecture was hosted by Han Rong the dean of the Art Institute. Vice President Zhang Wenli, Professor Sha Qiang and other researchers and teachers and graduate students from the Department of Industrial Design and Environmental Design participated in this academic lecture.
Professor Qian Zhenyu illustrates the future of information interaction through the changes in the definition of the Internet of Things and the rapid growth of IoT devices. Secondly, in view of the current social, environmental, technological and other challenges and problems, our designers should do: 1) have solid design skills; 2) not only be familiar with ergonomics, but also understand human cognition; 3) Design and evaluate using user experience research; 4) Must be able to understand the data, explain the information conveyed by the data, and communicate and collaborate with advanced technologies. Finally, Professor Qian combines a large number of examples to illustrate how designers can use interactive design theories, tools, and assessment methods to guide and improve the quality and efficiency of product innovation design in the product innovation design process. Among them, the information visualization work that led the students to complete was shared. The work appeared in the 2013 National Work Agency's work report and was recognized and praised by the US Department of Homeland Security. Professor Chen Yingjie first shared with us the history of the perfect combination of design and computer technology. The case of visualizing through my personal resume shows that our observation and understanding of the real world is mainly based on vision. The visual communication method can make people more effective. Receive information. Then introduced the basic skills of information visualization, including: 1) understand your users; 2) understand the tools required: Excel, Tableau, Graphi, programming, etc.; 3) understand the data; 4) understand the purpose and tasks; 5) understand design. And shared two snacks, one is the information visualization design based on the user experience, and the other is the visual analysis system design based on the design process. Finally, combined with the specific design practice, the basic process of information visualization design for user experience is introduced, and many excellent works are displayed. Among them, shared the experience of guiding students to participate in the 2013 visual analysis competition, and gave a very detailed explanation of the case "Spring Rain" and "Solar System".
After the lecture, the teachers and students on the scene actively discussed with the two professors. The two professors pointed out the problem of “how to face the explosion of knowledge in the future”. Professor Qian will tell the students how to find a solution in a place where they will not, and courageously face the crux of the problem. Perhaps the problem will be solved. And the two professors pointed out that the teacher's "how to look at the development of interactive design profession" pointed out that the future product design and information design are more and more emphasis on user experience, and interaction design will inevitably further intersect and integrate with several related disciplines. The content of this series of lectures is strong in frontier, rich in cases, vivid and specific, bringing infinite enlightenment to the teachers and students on the spot, expanding the design thinking of teachers and students in the fields of interaction design and information visualization design.
